![]() ![]() ![]() It would be tempting to write off “Fabio After Dark” as Worst Album Ever material-and many have-but for me, it’s weird and singular enough to deserve more than mere derision. There are noooooo phones to intrude on usįish from the water, fruits from the trees, and wonderful silence” Listen closely, and you can hear a leering grin curl upwards on Fabio’s mouth as he says “the theatre”, while in the background the keyboard player throws in a little pitch-bent, orgasmic widdle. For just one example, try “On Films”, in which Fabio offers his thoughts on the erotic potential of a medium then in rude health: It’s really, really strange stuff: a collection of stilted, spoken-word ponderings from Fabio laid over blocky, smooth jazz backing music that sounds like it’s been lifted straight from the Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack, interspersed with romantically-inclined songs licensed from other musicians, including Billy Ocean’s “Suddenly” and Kenny G’s “Songbird”. Do most people still dress up quite formally or is casual dress acceptable (we're assuming that jeans and sneakers would be out, but would nice slacks and sweater be appropriate)?įabio, in addition to his sterling work as a cover star of erotic literature and being the face of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, also released a 17-track LP called “Fabio After Dark” in 1993? What about phones? (I know they have to be set to silent, at least, and I assume you can't take photos, but are you allowed to have your phone with you?) Do you take your coats, umbrellas, etc. Do you have to book way in advance, or can you sometimes find something available (if you're not fussy about which play or which seats) close to performance day? We hope someone here from New York or who's attended a play there might have the answers to a couple of questions: ![]() Anything more, like seeing a well-thought-of play or performer, would just be an exciting bonus. (I've played in the pit band for a couple of musicals that ended up travelling to theatres here, but here ain't Broadway.) We don't really mind which play we see it's the experience of being there that we're really after. I've always wanted to see a Broadway play. We know we'll be staying in a fairly new Bronx hotel for five nights, Sunday through Thursday, and that we'll be right near the subway. The exact dates of our trip aren't set as of yet. My partner and I will probably have the chance to go to a Broadway play sometime in the next couple of months.
